Comprehensive Engineering Services

MJ Engineering’s services extend far beyond robotics. Our team of certified professional engineers provides mechanical and structural engineering across a broad spectrum of industries and applications. We proudly serve clients throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia with consulting, design, prototyping, and R&D expertise.

We routinely perform stress analysis, failure analysis, thermal modeling, and structural analysis to help our clients develop safer and more efficient systems. Whether you need help conceptualizing a brand-new solution or want to refine and test an existing design, we’re here to support every step of the process.

Our engineers are also experts in plant layout optimization, ensuring that workflows are designed to maximize efficiency and safety. We bring a systems engineering perspective to every project, identifying risks, bottlenecks, and cost-saving opportunities before they become problems.

Our robotic capabilities extend into specialized functions such as machine tending, packaging, material handling, and complex assembly cell design. With each system, our goal is to increase throughput while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.

MJ Engineering brings deep, hands-on experience to the automation of sagger handling for both roller kiln and tunnel kiln applications. Our robotic sagger handling cells are designed to solve two of the most persistent challenges in kiln operations: premature sagger damage and operator fatigue. By replacing repetitive lifting, twisting, and dumping with precise robotic motion, our systems significantly reduce ergonomic strain while extending the usable life of each sagger through gentle, consistent handling. Our standard turnkey sagger handling solution is built around FANUC R-1000 and R-2000 robots capable of handling up to 1,500 saggers per day. For higher-throughput operations, we also offer dual-robot configurations that can reliably exceed 2,000 saggers per day. Each system is engineered to integrate seamlessly with existing kiln workflows, whether saggers are fed individually or in stacks, with or without lids. For operations seeking even greater protection and quality control, MJ Engineering can integrate AI-based vision systems to identify cracked or compromised saggers before they fail. By removing damaged saggers early, these systems prevent downstream fractures, unplanned downtime, and hours of unnecessary cleanup. Sagger handling cells are just one example of MJ Engineering’s broader automation capabilities. From full turnkey systems to depalletizing cells and pick-and-place automation, we design and build solutions tailored to demanding industrial environments.

At MJ Engineering, robotic automation isn’t an add-on service—it’s a core capability. We specialize in integrating FANUC robotic systems across a wide range of applications, including pick and place, palletizing, part and product manipulation, routing, drilling, safety control, and line tracking. Our systems are engineered to meet the unique needs of each client, helping to streamline operations, reduce labor costs, and improve precision.

As the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) puts it, “Due to their inherent flexibility and reusability, robotic systems are an essential tool in strengthening U.S. manufacturing competitiveness by enabling dramatically greater responsiveness and innovation.” We couldn’t agree more.

What sets MJ Engineering apart? In the words of company President Richard Wand: “Our engineering prowess. We’re an engineering company first, before fabrication or manufacturing. We have a lot more technical resources than most companies of our size. Our staff of experienced engineers have worked in a variety of industries. If we haven’t seen it at some point in time or another, I’d be very surprised.”

Our robotic integrations are trusted by industries ranging from medical device manufacturing to composites and mining. We customize end-of-arm tooling for every job—whether it’s a vacuum system, gripper, automatic tool changer, pneumatic equipment, or multi-headed tool. Our goal is simple: deliver the exact performance your application demands.

To support rapid development and prototyping, MJ Engineering offers in-house manufacturing using both additive and subtractive processes. Our plastic and metal 3D printers allow us to create durable, high-precision components on demand. This capability enhances our ability to prototype quickly, iterate designs, and reinforce components before they ever reach full production. Our water jet system allows us to perform subtractive manufacturing for parts that require tight tolerances and high structural integrity. By handling critical part production in-house, we reduce lead times and

Safety is Non-Negotiable

MJ Engineering takes safety more seriously than anyone else in the industry. We would rather walk away from a job than deliver a robotic system that doesn’t meet our stringent safety standards. Every integration complies with ANSI/RIA R15.06 guidelines and OSHA directives, ensuring all personnel—from operators to maintenance staff—are protected from potential hazards.

Our systems include a mix of mechanical barriers, presence-sensing devices, and programmable safety interlocks. From hard guarding to electronic area scanners, we ensure that robotic systems stop immediately if a human enters a danger zone. Even with collaborative robots—designed to work side by side with humans—we never cut corners. If a robot handles dangerous objects, such as hot parts or sharp tools, physical separation is still necessary.

Industrial robots require thoughtful planning. Our engineers size the robot first, then design the rest of the equipment and workspace around it. We work with any size FANUC robot—from compact units with 10-inch reach and 1-kg payloads to heavy-duty robots handling up to 1,200 kg with 10-foot reach. Whether your needs are large or small, we can deliver a robotic system that fits precisely into your production flow.
